BALLAST PLOUGH

High Speed Ballast Clearing to the Sleeper Ends

The Thomson Rail Equipment Ballast Plough is used as an attachment to a road-rail machine, or rail mounted maintenance machine, for the rapid removal of ballast from the centre of the line to the sleeper ends.

The design of the blade ensures that a supply of ballast is left at the rail itself so that ballast is available to fill the voids created by subsequent tamping operations.  It also 'slices' the ballast preventing the pressure wave through the ballast which can lead to damaged clips and housings.

This machine is fitted with automatic, fail safe brakes and can be manufactured to suit any rail gauge.

It is hydraulically adjustable for different rail sections and heights and can be made to suit any gauge.

  • High speed operation

  • Even distribution to the sleeper ends
